ILS Engineer - Hook. 6 Months


Primary skills: Perform ILS analytical tasks and produce outputs in accordance with Def Stan 00-60 for software and IT systems. Other essential skills: System AR&M Modelling (predominently in software) Excellent communication skills so as to be able to explain functionality and benefits. Knowledge and understanding of IT systems including basic architectural principles, standard methods of operation, system administration tasks and equipment/ system connectivity. Familiarity with system and software development lifecycles. Ability to pro-actively gather information from developers/ designers. Ability to determine processes from briefings, re-inforced through hands-on investigation and documented at an appropriate level of detail and understanding. Ability to 'translate' information unambiguously into quality documents and reports using simple, clear English. Ability to ‘see-beyond' an issue and discover hidden details, options or alternative methods to tasks and processes and then capture and communicate them through written media. Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel, Project and Powerpoint. Familiar with ITIL Track record in IT projects. Time management, task prioritisation, well organised, able to cope with pressure so as to be able to work unsupervised. Experience with large cross linked documentation. Be a team player Have a positive, can do attitude. Desirable Skills / Qualifications: Team worker in a pressurised environment. Systems Engineering Background. HM Forces background/ knowledge. ILS Programme Management (Def Stan 00-60) In-Service Reliability Demonstrations, Maintainabilty Demonstrations and Logistics Demonstrations FMECA, RCM. ITIL Foundation (preferably V3) Day to Day Responsibilities: The ILS team requires an ILS Engineer to carry out logistic support analysis and other ILS functions. The functions are applicable to the company product range, which is IT systems and applications coupled with COTS, operated in a fixed and deployable environment. The ILS Engineer will be responsible to the ILS Manager for carrying out the following tasks (based on Def Stan 00-60 and Def Stan 00-40) for all projects : Trade Off Analysis Logistics Support Analysis Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM) modelling, trend analysis and reporting Through Life Cost Analysis Obsolescence investigations Hardware problem investigations Assitance in producing ILS estimates for proposals and changes This role will require the successful individual to hold valid UK SC clearance. Any candidates without this level of clearance must be willing, and eligible to undergo this lengthy and invasive procedure.
