The Normans were not French, They were first and second generation scandanavians, hence the name, Norman (north man). You'd have a fair tab the next day, the battle took place at a site named (afterwards of course) 'Battle'. One of the female relatives of the victor (some French bloke, can't remember his name right now) built Battle Abbey in thanks for his victory. I have actually visited the site which just happened to be on the 'something, something' anniversary where they had a re-enactment, and I stood and thought "The f***ing damage I could do with a section of mortars!!"

We got invaded by vikings, not the frogs.
