I would have been a General if only....

"...was initially reluctant to report the incident, fearing it would lead to mockery of the RAF by the Army".

Clear thinking at a critical moment, well done that Crab.
I'm afraid we've got news for him - if he wasn't such a retard, we'd still hold the RAF in utter contempt.

Regarding the awesomely traumatic 'support bandage', am I alone in thinking that tape like that, applied like that, is merely stopping some flab from wobbling??

Tangent - how does (did, if it's been binned) the up-or-out aspect of US pers management apply to lawyers, surgeons, and similar commissioned specialists?
Most "commissioned specialists" are only 3 steps from Colonel on their commission, generally coming into service as OF-3, some come in as OF-2, but will get their first promotion to OF-3 rapidly, and almost automatically.

Up-or-out basically means that if an officer is passed over for promotion twice, they retire. However, officers can request to be excluded from consideration by a selection board, if the basis for the request is to allow an officer to complete a broadening assignment, advanced education, another assignment of significant value to their branch, or a career progression requirement has been delayed by the assignment or education, and the officer has not been passed over before by previous boards.

Is someone confusing ‘wounded’ and ‘injured’?

If not, I was ‘wounded’ doing the Steeplechase back in 1987. Can I put a claim for a nasty gash?

‘I could have been a general if.......’ i’d bothered my arse and stayed in. It’s a pretty small gene pool up there with some singularly talentless military sh!ts, as well as as a smaller pool of top quality blokes.

Sandwiches in the mess FFS.

The tape is designed to draw attention. The dress she is wearing is worn to draw attention to the tape. The pose she has adopted is designed to draw attention to her taped shoulder. You can tell this by how much you can see of her left shoulder in a clearly posed photograph.
Much can be deduced from said photo.

Why the fork is a lawyer Lt Col firing a sniper rifle?
Same reason the padre used to down at Vogelsang...............its warry and they can talk about at dinner parties.

It’s a strange world, I offered a Major my snips and invited him to go down and deal with the device. He wasn’t interested. There’s no pleasing some people.

There was a Padre who went to 3 PARA (I think) who was a bit of a daft sod. He decided his presence was needed on a 94mm LAW range.

After the main armaments had been fired the range staff were engaged in the fiddly business of taking out the spotter rounds. The padre was warned in no uncertain terms to get behind the tables (and the LAWs). He did not.

Queue Padre writhing around with a 0.5" flash tip tracer in his ankle.

How did that happen? Once the main armament has been fired you can’t switch back to spotter round, to FFE it you screw a cocking rod in and eject any remaining cocking rounds.

Said Padre latched on to us when we went down for military skills competition training with the RSM. First day on the range we were following on from an Ord unit from Bielefeld. As we were sitting there one of the team wondered out loud who the knobber wearing the SAS smock was, what had piqued his interest was that the smock wearer had a machete strapped to his bum roll, a bayonet dangling off one side of his 58 belt and some other BFO knife on the other side............with his SLR slung over his shoulder upside down.

When he turned around it was the Padre.

Edit to add: Padres can't throw grenades either.

It was during the ejecting of the rounds. 94s were on the tables with range staff trying to extract them. (I wasn't there, so I don't know the exact details, but the story went 'viral' in the days before twitter etc)

I think someone’s pulling your plonker, in the scenario described he couldn’t have been shot in the ankle.

Possibly. The story was that we wandered in front of the FFE tables (despite advice to the contrary) and got hit down range. I like the story though, true or not.
