I was just thinking

back afer the second world war and perhaps up to the 1970s some folks joined who couldn't read and write. Of course the Army taught them and they were on the whole good soldiers but would they get in today with hardly any education. I, m thinking about youths from a broken poor home who didn't attend school or was forever getting excluded. Is the Army still a home and a Second chance for these people?
Looking at the kit list that you have to bring in as a sprog I bet a lot of folks couldn't afford it today. I think I turned up with a couple changes of underpants my wash kit less shaving kit as I didn't shave then lol.
