"I have a cunning Plan" Can you help me?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I'm not your average baldrick (I'm thick but at least I dont smell) but I do need help with working out a master plan. And nothing to do with taking over the world either.

My plan is to (finally) get into the Intelligence Corps. Not as simple as applying (even baldrick could work that one out!)

Currently I am a civvy with a Politics degree, but without the required
5 GCSE's and not any other suitable qualifications that they would accept as equivalent I need to think outside the box. However, I'm in my late twenties and dont wish to study anymore in civvy street.

I understand Int Corps would accept a transferee with 3 GCSE's so with my thinking (strategical) cap on my cunning plan is to work in a field that Mil. Int. corps would favour whilst doing the old distance learning to get the GCSE's under my belt.

So as your all in the army what should be my tactical move? I'm offering a prize for the best answer.
  2. Do equivalency tests? Or go ahead and apply anyway, they may think you a mong for not having the easy peasy GCSEs though.

Have you thought about applying for the AGC (SPS) and then transferring.
  4. Wouldn't recommend it. Too full of girls and not enough sunshine postings. I'd suggest 49 Para.

49 Para would be good if you like being shagged with a strap on.
  6. @ Codename1157 - a loyal follower I see hehe. Thanks for your advice. I am indeed considering a specialist unit so 49 Para has come to my attention although from some reason 29 Cdo rgt seems more appealing. But in your opinion would it be better for me to join a corps where I can earn some stripes asap?

@ B_AND_T - Thanks for the suggestion. I am considering that. That appeals to me for several reasons. Firstly im the wrong side of my twenties and consequently dont feel as motivated (as I might do if i was younger) to join an infantry based corps. Working in an office does bother me alittle as I wouldnt be experiencing the challenges of other options open to me (29 cdo rgt). That said if I were to work in SPS I'd keep my mind on joining the Int. corps in order to starve off low morale from setting in. Are you able to tell me how long it takes to L/Cpl in the SPS? Are a large majority females because I think I would get bored ? Did you have a laugh any how? Are they fit ? *cough* *cough*

  7. With a politics degree, why not go for a commission?

    On a serious note:

Promotion to LCpl 18 mths from date of enlistment (with recommendation)

Yes we do have a laugh, yes there are some fit birds, but we also have our fair share of munters. Worthy Down is shag city.
  9. Can we hear some more about this 49 para?
  10. If you don't know, you don't need to know. At least that's all I know.

The 1st rule of 49 Para is that you don't talk about 49 Para!
  12. 'kin ell! Stop talking about 49 Para!
