Russia, rightly or wrongly,has a pathological fear of invasion from the west. In less than 30 years NATO forces have moved hundreds of miles east from Wolfenbuttel to the very border of Russia. NATO is all over the Baltic states, now in Ukraine and the way things are going soon into Belarus. Bear poking.

for every single American killed in WW2 there were
1.4 dead in France,
2 from Britain and Commonwealth,
7 from Japan,
18 from Germany,
47 from China
and 64 from the Soviet Union.

I think they have some justification in fearing the West
