A retired general who has repeatedly visited Afghanistan to assess the situation there, says that Americans should prepare to accept hundreds of U.S. casualties each month in Afghanistan during spring offensives with enemy forces.
Gen. Barry McCaffrey, who teaches international affairs at the West Point military academy says that American casualties could rise as high as 300 to 500 killed and wounded a month by next summer.
  2. Dosent sound to good dose it>
  3. i think thats slightly over estimated, I know we only have a fration of the troops over there,
but scale it up and in our worst months are we near 500?
  4. Crap headline. GEN Maccaffery said killed and wounded. Given a 1 to 7 KIA/WIA ratio that equates to casualties on an order of Iraq at its worst for the US. It should not surprise anyone.
  5. Key points, this is a general talking,

Casualties COULD rise as high as etc etc.

If they do he was correct, if they dont, what is your grumble?

According to this, 953 US soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001,

    2001: 12
    2002: 49
    2003: 48
    2004: 52
    2005: 99
    2006: 98
    2007: 117
    2008: 155
    2009: 319
    2010: 4

300-500 killed a month by summer 2011 seems like a bit pessimistic, but sadly not impossible.

  7. Much the same as the Russians were losing and we're supposed to be doing much better than they did?
