Hundreds Dead And Stranded In Avalanches

At least 28 people are dead and 1,500 are stranded in a series of avalanches in Afghanistan, according to government officials.
Another 70 people have been injured as rescuers continue to dig out hundreds of vehicles stuck on a snow-blocked pass north of Kabul, the Defence Ministry said.

The avalanches happened on Monday following heavy snows in the Salang Pass that links the Afghan capital with the northern city of Mazar i Sharif.

Parwan provincial police chief Gen Abdul Rahman Sayedkhail said rescuers worked through the night to save more than 200 people.
