Michael Howard is winning the election campaign because he has associated the Tories with "anti-politics" populism, a leading Labour thinker said yesterday.

Tom Bentley, who runs the independent think-tank Demos, said that for the first time since 1997 the Conservative Party was successfully presenting itself as more in touch with grassroots popular opinion than Labour. Mr Howard was exploiting the single issue, real-life concerns that mattered more to many voters, he said.
Well is he?

Methinks that this is a not-very-clever attempt at a bit of double spin designed to scare the Socialist hordes into waking up and voting for their Glorious Leader, and not, through apathy let Mr Howard in by the back door.

I think you are right, both sides seem to just becoming aware that there is a massive wave of apathy amongst voters and are trying to scare people into voting against the other party rather than for their own.

I had my suspicions about the source.

The more i read the more i concur with you. Labour seem to be playing the fear card (this time the fear being the tories back in power) to their supporters and anyone who is less than enamoured towards those of a tory leader.

Its almost along the lines of

I know we are not a good option, but you better vote for us or else the nasty tories will get back into power.(ie we are the best of a bad bunch)
Really sad when it gets this low!

When you look at it, it's like being given the choice of drinking stale plss out of an old tin mug or a crystal goblet - it will still taste the same.
Buggers haven't even got started yet & I've had enough :x
