How to attribute an unamed decoration

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have come into possession through a member of my family, who has no knowledge of the background, a Military Cross. It is assumed that it belongs to a family member, which one is not known, although the two known MC recipients' medals are already in my possession. A search of the London Gazette with all the usual names hasn't been successful.

The isncriptione is for Messines on 7 June 1917.

Is there any other online resource which would help me attribute this award? Surely there can't have been many MCs awarded on a particular day... can there?

  3. Thanks very much msr. That might help narrow down the LG search... some interesting tales to be read.
  4. Your right there !

Met a guy who was awarded the BEM for services in Singapore with the RMP in the 80's, would be interesting to read about it as I only met him briefly !
