How does the 2 REP (FFL) compare to the British Paras?

More routine training jumps at 2 REP, courtesy of the official Regimental Twitter and Facebook feeds:

Carrying the kit to the rally point (respirator and gloves worn for Covid-19 PPE). - Cases of the disease have been reported in Calvi.
Obviously on an operational jump the parachute and reserve would be ditched.

2 REP HMG team in training on the "Douze-Sept" (i.e. 12.7mm or .50 Cal) One man drops with and carries the tripod, the second man has the body of the weapon and the third two barrels. All carry ammo.

The SIG assault rifle is interesting; normally it is only issued to the army divers (because of the Marine coat surface treatment of the rifle) so maybe this particular REPman is part of the regiment's diving team of the 3rd Coy.

IIRC, the SIG is part of the "Lot IO" (intervention offensive) kit issued to army divers, not to be confused with the Marine National combat swimmers of Commando Hubert

It has been confirmed Droukdel was killed by French SF.

As for replacements, in the Sahel region, once killed, major players like Droukdel cannot be replaced with another man of the same stature.

Look at his pedigree. We are taling about a veteran with several decades of experience.
Wishful thinking I'm afraid, it lets others try their methods. See Iraq and Zaqawri. These networks are pervasive and there's no quick win.

The picture is from the 2 REP Instagram feed and the caption mentions that it is 3rd Coy Divers.

Are those the bods that jump last and land first?!
Yes them and the 81mm mortar teams, the MMP ATGM teams and the signals teams with the SSB HF radios, pedal generators and dipole antenna sets (I was one of the last lot and as I was already 1m85 and 85kg, I dropped like a stone!)

The 3°REI has a unique structure within its rank, the Groupe de Transbordement Maritime et Fluvial (GTMF).

It uses a CTM launch named « Anne-Marie » (the name of the regimental song) and it has among its tasks the transport of Légionnaires to and the replenishment of the Saint Joseph rest centre on the Iles du Salut group of islands where the infamous Devil's Island is located. The Saint Joseph centre is a perfect place to get cool Atlantic air, away from the humid air of the jungle.

« Anne-Marie » is also use to secure the maritime approaches to the Guyana space centre from which the Ariane rocket is launched and to transport pax and equipment on major waterways.

Recently, "Anne Marie" had to do some maintenance; since the crane normally used to lift it out of water was u/s, the Légionnaires waited for a particularly high tide to beach it and do what they had to do.

@fantassin Quick question:

Although he is a former Foreign Legion Officer, in this picture, the General is not serving in a Legion unit, yet he is wearing the the lozenge badge of the Foreign Legion on his left sleeve. Why or how come?

New uniform regulations for GOs. They get to keep their parent units' badges and headgear now and they also have their own gilet d'arme colour: white.

Many thanks!

Between 1 and 6 June, the 1er REC BG was involved in 4 different TICs that led to the neutralization of several members of terrorist groups and the destruction of 10 motorbikes, their favorite mode of transport as well as the recovery of a quantity of weapons
