How do the French do it?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Would anyone know why the French are able to do things with defence that the UK appears to have given up on in the 1960s? France gets a rough time on this & other forums, but I can't help but admire the way that they have a fully independent nuclear deterrent for which they were willing to pay twice as much as ours (with 95% public approval) and they design and build their own fighter aircraft too, amongst other things, all of which rank amongst the best.

On the face of it they have a similar size economy, similar population, overseas commitments and a European standard welfare state.

Is it because they can and we can't or they want to and we don't?

The French, like the Germans, have a set of political 'balls'.

UK is signing with a very high voice - but noone is listening.
  3. Got it in one!. How do you think the CRS would handle drunken scrotes, yobs etc? Or the Bundespolizei come to that.
  4. apart from the fact France is financially and morally bankrupt,
Why would we want to be anything like them?
Riots in most towns and cities in the last 2 years, rampant illegal immigration, Sacha Distel on the radio, rampant xenophobia especially on the radio and T.V.
oh and they leave the frogs as paraplegics too, the bar-stewards :)

well, yeah that's another mystery - our economy is in a lot better shape I understand than theirs, something Sarkozy is supposed to be remedying in the future so their economy can be like ours.
  6. They have a defence industry that caters to the needs of of France's armed forces, unlike us, who's armed forces have to take the crap that BAE churns out to them!
  7. doesn't help that the French unions dictated (back in '70's) that pensions would be 70%-85% of last wage.
Massive illegal immigration that makes the BNP efforts in Blackburn look insignificant.

Massively govt. subsidised aerospace industry and masses of Franco-German cooperation for ground forces equipment procurement
  8. Oh, no! Not Sacha Distel on the radio!! Have they no pity, the rotten Frog swines.
