Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. How can I findout about an american veteran?

My family and I are trying to trace a man that served over here back in 1944/1945 and don't know how to. We know his name, the state he came from and thats about it :(

please PM me if you have any ideas

    Many thanks
  2. Try Mil.Com. Someone on there might be able to help.

Just don't offend them - it's very easy to do.
  3. Can anyone tell me if there is somewhere to find a serving member of the British Army or maybe now left the service?? Have tried friends reunited etc etc.

Sorry if this is in wrong place.

  4. Many of the infantry divisions were in fact National Guard. For example, if your soldier in question was from Pennsylvania, he'd quite possibly have been with the 28th Infantry Division (PA National Guard). If from Maryland or Virginia, he may have been with the 29th (Blue and Grey Division, Virginia and Maryland Guard). You might check with the relevant National Guard associations from the state he was in.
  5. Thanks for your replies, He was infact in the american air force and based in or around the Bristol area during the time I stated.

    Many thanks
