We have someone stuck in Turin (Italy) and need rapid cash today.

The cash isn't a problem, but Western Union is 70 miles away and out of reach for many reasons.

Does anyone know of an immediate way of sending / receiving same day cash ?

It can't be a CHAPs / Swift transfer due to the receiving bank being over drawn.

    Whilst I'm at it.

This case, Ex Forces, stuck in Turin, left forces, moved over to be with partner, 4 kids, eldest died of Leukemia Christmas day last year. Lost job due to nursing and wanting to be with dying child. Lost house, car, now stuck in a bedsit in a crap part of town and unable to feed family etc.

No entitlement to Italian assistance, and looking to get them home, however that will take a few days and need to get them fed and squared away.

    Help please folks.

  2. Try the FCO and British consulate, they may have a local office.
  3. alternatively, go to your local bank manager at HSBC and ask her if they have HSBC branches in Turin.
  4. Not sure if they are in a position to help?
They may however have a bank account we could use?

The Brit Embassy will cash you a cheque up to £100 if supported by plastic. In extreme circumstances they will loan flight money (used to be called repatriation). They will give you guff about "HMG is not a travel agency" but basically, if you can prove the family will be more hassle to them staying in Turin, they should go for it. This is not a cheap option since they use scheduled BA flights and they nab passports at the UK end till the family repay the loan. (This info is a few years out of date so if I've got it wrong, please correct).
