Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

Another date for your diaries - the last weekend of June sees Holidays for Heroes fundraising at the Tank Museum's annual Tankfest. Another opportunity to eat cake, rattle tins, enjoy banter and raise funds, this time to the roaring and throbbing of diesel engines!

Please note for your diaries, and I'll be asking for volunteers nearer the time.

A wee bump as I've been asked whether Holidays for Heroes will be attending this event in 2013. We will! We'll be in a different location this year, but will still have:
    Copies of Stumpys's memoir
    T-shirts
    Branded goods
Mugs depicting THAT rifle (see thread in charity auctions)
    and cake for volunteers

    So far the volunteers are:
    Me
    Former chopper fixer
    poss shopgirl
    Sgt Slingsby himself
    Cpl Horsa
    Cpl Arnhem

  3. That's the weekend before my last 'working' day in the army, I'll be down for at least one day of it. I may even bring cake.

Chocolate muffins have been baked, stuff is all ready to load into the car and I have a map to the location of our new stall in the museum as well as the trader passes and car park pass. All seems to be well so I'm off to meet shopgirl for lunch. We ladies need sustenance!

Let's hope that I don't get any more punters asking why 'Help for Heroes' isn't sending them merchandise! Grrrrr.

  6. Very best wishes for Tankfest! Unfortunately, we are unable to attend this one, but are hoping to come to Middle Wallop later in the year if there's another open day. If so, would you have room for a large box of good-as-new books?

Sorry if this is off topic, but I have a memory like a sieve and thought I'd mention it before I forgot!!!

Bugger. If I'd known you had a stand planned, I'd have offered a couple of suitcases of review and self-purchase books I cannot get stirred for. Where are you so I can come and take the piss ... I mean have a friendly chat and buy Auld Sapper's book (even though it was just last week I told Amazon I wanted it on the Kindle cos I cannot get moved in my house for books) and buy a THAT RIFLE mug. Did I tell you I was bringing nipper, two workmates and a nipper of one of them, with lots of disposable dosh?

Will you be anywhere near Arthur3bums (ex-3RTR) who'll be flogging his SS warporn as usual and looking after our folding chairs until we need them)?

Thanks for your good wishes folks. We're in the WW2 hall this time, not our usual spot. We're first on the left, opposite the King Tiger, according to the map I have. Not sure whether Arther3bums will be near us, but 'Jen's cakes' is. Maybe if the chocolate muffins are rubbishe we'll patronise them.

We haven't much scope for any more secondhand books, thank you everyone who's offered. They take a lot of space and are difficult to sell. We always make room for Stumpy though!

No SLR mugs have arrived yet, so if anything they'll be on the stall on Sunday, if they arrive tomorrow!

See you all tomorrow and/or Sunday.

  9. I should be there on Sunday morning as I've got a photo shoot with a Saracen on Saturday (its starting to sound like Sun headline)
and Sunday PM it's my daughters dance studio presentations. If I get time I'll make cake. then help you eat it.

Quick update as I head out for supper folks. Many thanks to HN1F's Dad who helped us all day long, to the ARRSers who called to say hello, and to the Tank Museum for changing our location - we sold a lot more stuff today. Takings in the Tupperware Till were £115.35, with three collecting tins still to open. One of which has at least £35 in notes which I saw being pushed in by lovely people. We've had a great day and the former chopper fixer was delighted when the Lynx 9 showed up at the battle re-enactment at the end.

HN1F looked great in her Russian uniform too!

Final total after a long hot day of hard trading - £223.28 of which £203.28 is profit. Many thanks to everyone who helped and popped in to say hello. Punters were harder to attract today, but we did have a very kind man who bought a penny coin from us for 50p. Ours not to reason why!

HN1F took Cpl Arnhem to Russia and to the Pacific so there should be good pics for the website; PXR will follow tomorrow when my feet stop aching!
