hobart bks detmold

#1
as i've spoken to several ppl here about it
well about the way detmold has changed during the last 15 years
and especially the hobart bks / hackedahl region *it isn't even called hackedahl anymore*
i kept my promise and took some photos yesterday when i came along

you feel really bad when you see all those buildings literally abandoned to dereliction
hardly a window that hasn't been smashed ... and everything overgrown by rampant weeds
if you know the place from some 20 years ago or so and you have the chance to go there again just to have a look
think about it first ... perhaps it's better to keep things in mind the way they were by that time

Thanks. I spent 13 years in Detters, so it's hard to see the state of the place now and reconcile that with my memories.

If you're going to post picks of the place, could you make them of the watering-holes downtown please?

oh and of course i didn't forget about this

sander's gaststätte

the guy who used to run it *v.l.* has left some 15 years ago i was told
it's not a pub anymore - today it's a place you can rent for parties
couldn't take any photos inside cause it's only opened for those who have rented it

So that's what it looked like in daylight!

Thanks for the offer YIM. I guess most of the pubs downtown have changed a bit since I left in 92, but if you can find Pothoffs, the Eisbar, the Ohrid or Paraplui I'd be very grateful.

another question ... i'm not familiar with the legal basis
is it allowed to post photos made within the bks some 20 years ago?

i still have some nice ones - most of them taken up in the cpl's mess *rmp building*
i should think it doesn't matter today whether someone sees them
because the bks are closed - so you can't endanger anyone or anything else like that

who knows about this?

if there is no problem about doing so i will scan the photos and post them as well

i guess most of those posted there will remember the mess ... well more or less

 yeah that's the daylight version ;)

Can't see that posting pics of the barracks would be a problem now, you own the copyright and you're hardly going to endanger anyone's safety after all this time. Pics of other people might be a different matter, especially if they're of peeps in 'compromising' positions at a Mess thrash.

i shall remember the last sentence before posting them and make others unrecognisably ;)

:(Saw some pics of Lothian Bks.They are now flats for immigrants.
So many happy memories, and some very embarrasing ones.
Would love to see some pics of the town square.
Oh yes and  Pothofs.

Spent six happy years in Hobart (86-92). Absolutely gutted to see it like that now.

i know what you mean ... though i'm only living about 30 miles from detmold
i always avoided to pass hobart after it had been closed
i heard from others about the squalor and didn't want to see it this way
but then again i promised someone here to take these photos
and you can't do it without having a look yourself
it has been a terrific place in the early 80th and i never heard any soldier complaining about town and the ppl living there
it's heartbreaking indeed to see what's become of it

Nice little collection of anecdotes, including one from me!

If I wasn't at work I'd be crying into a pint right now.
