Not sure what a "fourty two" is but a 'forty-two' is a destroyer.

Anyway, you might find this educational:

...the ship's company of HMS Brocklesby, which helped clear the mines in the approaches to Misrata last week, is currently on its second six-month deployment in nine months. It returned from the Gulf last August and deployed again in January this year...
Now, what's all this nonsense about an Army "1-in-5 rule"?
House of Commons Defence Select Committee said:
Army – a soldier (or unit) should expect to undertake a 6 months operational tour, and then have a 24 months ‘tour interval’ before the next deployment. Characteristically, the interval between operational tours is spent initially at home, then preparing for deployment. The Army short hand for this is the ‘1-in-5 rule.’
P.S. You do know this is the Royal Navy forum, don't you?
