Indo Pacific simply means East of Suez - in other words the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent as was as the Antipodes and the Far East. Large part of the Indo Pacific have been a main operating area for British forces for decades.
I look forward to HMS Prince of Wales assuming her role as flagship of the NATO Response Force next year - it will be interesting to see what number and type of aircraft she embarks, how she interacts with NATO Standing Naval Forces, and what sort of exercises and activities she is involved with. Protecting transatlantic reinforcements and amphibious forces perhaps?
Yes - I was right. I imagine that launching Merlin HM2 to do ASW in conjunction with frigates and NATO submarines, launching F-35B Lightnings to intercept Russian aircraft, and working with amphibious forces will all be on the menu.
According to an official Royal Navy publication, titled Future Maritime Aviation Force, which was originally published in December 2020, the Royal Navy aims to replace its helicopter-based airborne early warning (AEW) platform, the Merlin HM2 Crowsnest, with a fixed-wing UAV, currently known as Vixen, by 2030.
In other words, they will free up the ASW aircraft to concentrate on ASW.
