Highest ranking ethnic minority officer in HM Forces?

Senior RN appointments

Commodore A. M. Hussain Royal Navy to be promoted Rear Admiral and to be Director General Logistics (Fleet) and Navy Board Member for Logistics in succession to Rear Admiral R. P. Boissier with effect from September 5, 2006. This appointment carries with it membership of the Admiralty Board of the Defence Council.

Does this make Cdre Hussain the highest ranking "ethnic" in any of the services?

Why hasnt this received more media attention?

How many other Western countries have a Muslim two-star for goodness sake...

Wouldn't it be considered racial discrimination to give him extra media attention whilst a white, christian promoted to the same level doesn't have any more than a one-liner in the Times? He's a member of the forces FFS. Congratulations on the promotion, but many other servicemen and women have been promoted in their careers too, and as we are told colour or religion aren't a factor.

I know Amjad of old; he is a thoroughly effective and efficient bloke, who - when I worked with him - did a very good job indeed (and it wasn't by any means a glamorous job either). At least the RN don't make people up unless they are thoroughly deserving of the promotion. If he gets Media attention, then good on him - he deserves it, and if encourages others to join the Forces, that's all to the good as well.

Congratulations, Amjad :)

I'm pretty sure he's half Maltese. GDav could probably confirm as he's ex QRIH.

The sultan of Brunei has an honarary commission in the Irish Guards! Which is odd because he doesn't look Irish at all.

Didn't they give him a donkey jacket for his pass off parade?

Who cares what ethnic back ground they are from as long as they do the job in hand to a good standard.

Dave
Indeed, who cares about race, religion, sex, orientation etc. provided that he/she is the best person for the job.

What planet are you living on?! In effect, by stating that he received the VC because he was an 'ethnic' you're casting a slur on every Foreign & Commonwealth soldier (by your definition everyone of them an 'ethnic') who received gallantry medals/awards in previous campaigns and wars. Was it their skin colour and ethnicity that merited them getting their medals too?

You need to take youself away and have a word with yourself or, failing that, perhaps Fijian, Ghurkha, Indian, African, NZ, Australian, Canadian soldiers whose antecedents you're slurring could do it for you!

Nothing to do with the fact that he personnaly, on two occassions, rescued his section in serious circumstances, getting seriously injured on the second occassion. You are a fool and I doubt you have the courage or integraty to be half the man he is

Why should it? If he can do his job then who cares if he's an ethnic?

That is the most raciest comment I have seen on ARRSE in ages. While we have bigots like you racism will always be with us.

I for one believe he was awarded his VC on merit - A very brave man, and I will stand him a drink anytime, anyplace, anywhere...

He is but one thing - He is a British Soldier, and I salute him.
