Here is a delicate question, but a real issue

I can't see that any detrimental action should be taken against Soldier X, given the information presented. My point of view may change if there is any evidence that there has been an attempt (either by Soldier X or ex-Mrs B) to embarrass Officer B and thereby undermine his authority.

In practical terms, however, I can see that moving Soldier X "in order to expand his experience and thus improve his career prospects" would be a likely scenario.
Hmmm...perhaps if ex Mrs B were to affect a Scouse accent and you...ahem..I mean "soldier X"...could inscribe "love" and "hate" on her fingers in indelible ink, then the "relations with those below stairs" thing would wither on the vine?
