Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hello

I am tracing my family tree and I have a great-great uncle who was in the army during WW1. He died in 1916 aged 18. His record of death says he died 'at home' but he is on a local war memorial as having died at Ripon Military Hospital.

I'm just wondering if anyone here might know if 'at home' meant the UK as opposed to whatever place he was posted to or if it literally meant at home.

If this is a stupid question then I shall flagellate myself immediately whilst offering grovelling apologies for wasting your time.

  2. Thought at home meant in the UK.

  5. Thanks guys.

FourZeroCharlie - I have been looking on ancestry and that's where I found the document that confused us by saying he died at home. Thanks for the kind offer though, appreciated.
