Hey, I am awaiting my date for pre-selection (Belfast) and my recruiter wanted me to give my choices of regiment: 1) Rifles 2) Royal Irish.
He seemed very keen on me joining the RIR being "a local lad" I was just wondering how much influence (if any) he has on my choosen regiment, Also can you choose your batallion or are you just assigned to the one with the most vacancies. Cheers for any feedback.

http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/royalmarines/ bit of General Duties then shabam !!

Reconnaissance Operator
As a Reconnaissance Operator, you will specialise in reconnaissance skills so that you can provide Commandos with advanced knowledge of enemy numbers and positions. This role could be your first step to becoming a Mountain Leader.
Must be good looking though, with pearly whites and preferably not scared of heights..

Go RIFLES. Wth 5 Bns you'll get a lot more variety if you want it. And you won't have to wear a gonk bag on your head either.
Yeah and you will be able to march like Anthony Cotton in a hurry.

Regiment is your choice, battalion can go down to places...but if the battalion you want doesn't have space, don't join yet :p

1st Battalion Royal Irish have people with 16 Air assault.

You make your own choices. The recruiting Sgt obviously has vacancies he needs to fill in those Regiments. If you don't want to go infantry say so and be prepared to stick to your guns. If he continues to be a pain in the arrse and insisting that there are no other vacancies available go to another recruiting office or contact the Regiment/Corps recruiting team you do want to join.

Your choice young man not the recruiters, study it and make your own mind up, some have more vacancies than others, what is your motivation? a job sooner rather than later?
