Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I know that this is like asking Dracula to baby-sit a virgin, and I am probably in for a lot of stick but here goes........

I teach English in Catalonia and two of my female students would like to find summer work in the UK to improve their fluency and gain experience, and have asked if I could sort them out. One is 21 the other 17 years old. Both have good English and should have no big problems in communication.
They would like to find jobs where they are working directly with the public in order to use their English, so what they want for example is hotel reception rather than making beds in the same hotel. They are willing to be flexible in the type of job, and money is not hugely important in the sense that it should cover living expenses as the English experience is what they are after.

I have been away for a while now and have lost most of my contacts, and I would be grateful for any help.
Any job should be verifiable as I don’t want them to have a bad experience, and I do try to look after my students.

To anticipate some comments, neither is a good-looker in the classical sense, though the older one has a magnificent chest. The younger one’s dad is a rather large ex-policeman currently working with the Catalan police as a Crisis Psychologist and a good mate, who I have now infected with a love of good ale, curry, and rugby.
Both are nice lasses though a bit shy (the elder) and reserved (the younger).
I have already imagined the sexual innuendo, so you needn’t bother, this is a serious question.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Seriously, I have a mate who owns a hotel in Victoria. I know he has accom for some of his staff but haven't spoken to him in a while so don't know if he is after any staff. I'll make a few calls later and get back to you.

  7. Try "The SLOAN Club" in Sloan square.

Their staff used to have TA siggys working there and are always looking for staff.

Wages not to good but the accommodation is in Sloan square and they set up their staff with a bank account ,NI number and all that.

BUT it is mainly chamber maid stuff.

  8. Dwarf, I am 100% with Litotes. Obviously the great majority of ARRSE personnel haven't seen this one yet :brilsmurf: I wish you and the girls the very best of luck. STAND BY! STAND BY!

BY the way, good drills on the curry and beer side :thumright: Don't teach the Spanish too much Rugby though, my beloved land of the Sweaties have just been drubbed by another bunch of Latin types and I'm not too chuffed.

    For something different try here:

Out of the way but all the non-local staff tend to be students. Stayed there a few times, lastest was end of January this year, plus eaten/drank there on many others. Don't know how the 17 year old would get on though as the staff tend to multi task, I've been booked in by a chambermaid!
I'm sure those on here from the walking/climbing commuity know the place well.

  10. I can offer them work, not in a hotel and it will involve travelling all over the UK. from july to sept.

PM me if you want details.

How big are the large breasts? (couldn't resist that one..sorry)

  11. And if they take their own food, tell them to skip anything by Campbells.

    It'll be a massacre.

I take it you've seen the notice by reception then mistersoft.

  13. .......k.........

  14. Thanks for those who are trying to help.

Optimistic, mad, and other things, yeah but then I was a Rupert, and considered, shall we say, eccentric even for one of those. My character faults were well catalogued and dissected by various SNCOs, so I do know them.
But I do believe that soldiers will help other soldiers. naive perhaps but I don't think so.
I am trying other ways and means and phoning round, but I have been an expat schoolie for a long time now.
Yes I know lots of foreign types look for summer work which is why any clues or links to places to look are really appreciated.

    Thanks again.

An idea rather than help? London and SE hotels are swamped by kids doing summer jobs so they tend to be used and abused because theres lots of them.

Try hotels in Northumberland and the Borders. Smaller, friendly hotels where staff integrate into the community and the girls can extend their English beyond "Please", "Thank you" and "Donkeys are not permitted in the room".

This theory will probabally work for other far flung places like Scotland or, God help them, Wales?
