  1. Hello there,
A relative of mine is travelling to Hong Kong next week... any tips on shopping in Hong Kong? He'd be looking for a smarphone, perhaps a laptop PC...
Are there any websites out there? Tried Yahoo directory but only found one electronics shop in English , and it did not have the phone he's looking for (BenQ P50). My google query ends up with the HK Electronics Trade Fair, so no use either...
Any help or tips would be much appreciated.

    Haggle is my tip .

There are two main shopping areas, 'Tsim Sha Tsui East' and 'Nathan Road' or ' the Golden Mile' in Kowloon.

Nathen rd was my favourite and biggest I think mind you theres shops every where.
  3. Mong Kok is the place for electronics. it's on the MTR metro system so is easy to get to (red line from Central etc). It's also very crowded with all sorts of other market stalls.
TST and Nathan Road good for suits etc.
  4. Sounds like a,err, specialist porn movie....
  5. Was called the Mong Kok Computer Center back in 2000 when I was there. We were after Sony Camcorders, prices were about the same as German shops at the time with the exchange rate at 11 HK$ to the pound BUT they came with the longer life battery and other accessories. Wouldn't know what prices are like now. Wan Chai Computer Center is where we got all our software on gold cds from around 20 DM for Windows NT server. This place was also good for computer books.
In the "proper" shops the only things that were cheaper than Europe was the Nakamichi HiFi that you can hang on the wall or put on a shelf. A Weizenbier was around 16DM at the time, maybe the lower HK$ will make that part less painfull.
  6. Thank you very much for all your replies and PM's
Just hope he gets my Phone!!!!
  7. In Honkers, the further north you go the more likely you are to get ripped off, and this especially applies to the touristy bits around Nathan Road, Mongkok etc. You have to be very careful as they are very good at it. Safest way to shop is at the 'proper' electronics shops such as Fortress or Broadway as stuff has a proper guarantee and prices are as good as anywhere.

One place the locals go though for phones and computers is the Wanchai computer centre on Hennessy road which is above the Wanchai MTR station. Good thing about shopping there is if you go late you can pop into a couple of bars for a beer afterwards!!
