Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I've been asked if I can post this on military forums for a friend, sorry if it's in the wrong spot.

Hello. I was wondering if you could help me help a mate of mine. His father in law age 92 is slowly dieing, and when he's having a lucid period he is reminiscing about playing football for the Combined Services team at the Klagenfurt Stadium in Austria in 1945.
We know that this is true and that pre war he played for Witton and was highly rated. The problem is neither myself nor my mate have been able to find out anything about this, then it struck me that maybe someone on your Army forum may have some knowledge of this.

It would possible be known about by people of our age who have listened to, and remembered(!) stories told by their fathers.

Can I leave this one with you?
    Thanks, Badge..

BTW there's a suggestion that Willie Thornton MM of Rangers and Scotland may have been one of his team mates.
