Hello Kitty punishment....

#1
BANGKOK, Thailand — Thai police officers who break rules will be forced to wear hot pink armbands featuring "Hello Kitty," the Japanese icon of cute, as a mark of shame, a senior officer said Monday.

Police officers caught littering, parking in a prohibited area, or arriving late — among other misdemeanors — will be forced to stay in the division office and wear the armband all day, said Police Col. Pongpat Chayaphan. The officers won't wear the armband in public.

The striking armband features Hello Kitty sitting atop two hearts.

"Simple warnings no longer work. This new twist is expected to make them feel guilt and shame and prevent them from repeating the offense, no matter how minor," said Pongpat, acting chief of the Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok.

"(Hello) Kitty is a cute icon for young girls. It's not something macho police officers want covering their biceps," Pongpat said.

He said police caught breaking the law will be subject the same fines and penalties as any other members of the public.
Reminds me of that tough Sheriff in Texas, I think, he makes his prisoners wear pink. Though punishing coppers like this is a new one.

Imagine that in this country, human rights, and all that.

Perhaps traffic officers found guilty of offences could be compelled to perform their duties in the "Hallo Kitty" Mobile??

And we could give this one as suitable punishment to all Chav Boy Racers

Why does the one on the left seem to have a placard attached to his back?
Yes! The others are studiously ignoring him too...looks like Umberto has been selected to wear the "Kick me!" sign today...those scamps!

The 'Standard' punishment in Thighland for all Police/Military/Cival servants is a posting to a non performing post.
In English this is a job which has no opertunitys for making a little on the side.
All Goverernment servents are paid very poorly, and as one publication said, 'Corruption is the way of life'.
My pension as a 23 year S/sgt is as large as the official wage of a Police or Military C.O..
I ride a M/cycle they will have a Cherffur driven Benz for private transport.

The Thais are all scofflaws - Not allowed to smoke inside, well do so but stop if the Police come and then start again if the Police come and they smoke.
woried when you get caught speeding a small 'Tip' to the police officer should sort that out.
200 Baht for speeding - about three quid. I got my last one a couple of days ago. I was told to show the ticket if I was stopped again that day to avoid another fine.
