Heavy fighting erupts over separatist Nagorno-Karabakh (Armenia Vs Azerbaijan)

and yet, today, Yerevan is announcing ‘great success! , with once again, the advancing on all front Azeri Arny thrown back in disarray with heavy losses.

And Baku is denying it happened at all and that they took no losses yesterday and today, despite the videos of it happening. It's almost like they are both lying.

Did you happen to spot a list of Azeri casualties while you were googling?

Shirley the victorious Armenian army can supply footage of all the thrice defeated and advancing victoriously in disorder Azeri dead?

Meanwhile, Great victory by Armenia!

actually, no, Baku dI’d admit losses while demolishing an Armenian Attempt at a counter attack... that’s the MLRS strike on a large number of Armenian troops in the open, filmed by a Bayraktar drone.

If you insist.

For anyone that is an old fart like me and conscripts look like children to you, the first video includes footage of a platoon's worth of Azeri conscripts being gunned down as they try to run away, it's not a nice thing to watch.

The Azeris have released casualty figures? Do you have a link to that?

You’re plumbing new depths here.

If you’d ever served you’d take no pleasure in death.

I genuinely wish you’d stop.

Possibly a response to Turkey indicating a willingness to supply troops to the Azeis earlier this week. A gentle reminder that what Russia has placed there before can be done again, and that Armenia proper is still out of bounds.

"At least 13 fighters of the Russian Aerospace Forces have been spotted at an airbase in Armenia." - dated from earlier this year

Probably no real significance, as that was months before NK kicked off. Russia has numerous joint exercises with its treaty partners and near neighbours (ok, and some kinetic interventions..). Aviation tours are quite common - presumably less logistics involved than large ground formations.

IIRC Armenian and Azerbaijan troops were on exercise together in Russia only a couple of months back.

It's more the timing of the (re-)release of the photogaph that strikes me.

I think there is quite a lot of political & social media activity in Russia trying to prompt Putin to "do something" to help Armenia.

He's rather painted himself into a corner over the years by developing strongly nationalistic themes - including faux religious fervour around Orthodox brethren (e.g. Armenia). Now that its become clear that the vision of a new soviet union isn't going to happen - with Ukraine gone, Belarus wobbly, Georgia gone, the 'stans now gravitating towards Turkey/China - the Slav and Orthodox brotherhood themes have taken more prominence.

Anyway, Russian weddings and social life would take a big hit if the supply of Armenian cognac and wine is interrupted..

Drag them Ruskies in, if Turkey wants to be a regional power then have to face them and Iran.

In the far East, surely the hypocritical Sand Pikey Muslims must arise the persecution of their brothers the uighers?

Then maybe we can sit back and get the war porn fix without actually being involved in anything kinetic.

Azerbaijan has been scrupulously careful not to advance beyond its agreed international border.

The Russians really dont want to get involved, there is no strategic value to Armenia, it will bring in the Turks, and they are playing with home advantage, have very large and very sharp teeth, and can invoke NATO if Russia crosses their border to hit their territory.

what we will see after the dust is settled will be a formal defence treaty between Turkey and Azerbaijan - ‘Two countries, one people’ as Erdogan says, to ensure the border stays fixed, with Turkish forces based in Azerbaijan.

and then there is the trade interests - as always, follow the money

Baku is commuted to what they are calling ‘The Great Return’, getting 1 million displaced Azeris back into the recovered land.
However, the Armenians have conducted a total scorched earth policy over the last 25 years, levelling every single thing from whole towns down to individual homes and it will require a massive reconstruction effort. Turkey has the people and construction companies, and the experience doing huge reconstruction efforts across whole regions thanks to earthquakes, and Azerbaijan has the money. Everyone wins.

and yes, Erdogan has big interests in construction companies.

All our customers on the Pacific Islands are struggling with Covid as they are 99% reliant on tourism, I would imagine Turkey isnt much different in terms of income, I mean, Turkish Delight is like Marmite right!

Do you think Turkey would consider what you mentioned as a recovery from Covid financial crisis or just a happy coincidence?

Hmmmmmm, a decades work, hundreds of thousands of construction jobs and many $Billions in reconstruction contracts....... and no language barrier.

A happy confidence indeed!

Two possible ideas spring to mind.

If it’s kosher (no pun intended) they may well be shït scared of lighting it up. I encountered 3 x ZSU 23-4 whilst tidying up after GW1. All three were upside down after having a HARM ride down their beam, as it were.

However, considering how spick and span everything was (nice fire, weapons cleaned and stacked, no muddy footprints) I’d hazard a guess and say it was a Potemkin Village set up for the media, well away from the front lines.
It also seemed to be a bit foggy, which presumably reduces the effectiveness of the UAVs, so safer to film something like this.
