HCR death in Afghanistan, 15.10.08

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a British soldier from D Squadron, the Household Cavalry Regiment was killed as a result of an explosion this afternoon, 15 October 2008, during a routine patrol approximately 23km north of Forward Operating Base Delhi in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Woody Page, said:

"We are deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts are with his family and his Unit at this tragic time”.

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.

Rest in peace lad.
