The telegraph is reporting the interesting possibility that Keith Vaz has been - how shall we say - less than honest in reporting his income.

Secret police probe into Labour MP's £500,000 - Telegraph

A police investigation into a high-profile Labour MP discovered that he apparently held hundreds of thousands of pounds in a series of bank accounts, The Daily Telegraph can disclose. The Scotland Yard inquiry said funds believed to have been “of a suspicious nature” were paid into current and savings accounts in the name of or linked to Keith Vaz, a minister in the previous Labour government.

Detectives found that over a six-year period, almost £500,000 was apparently deposited in the MP’s accounts — in addition to his salary between 1997 and 2001. The source of the funds has not been declared publicly and the evidence gathered by police may contradict assurances given by Mr Vaz during an investigation into his finances between 2000 and 2001 carried out by parliament.

The Labour MP has denied any wrongdoing and claims that any money passing through his bank accounts came from the proceeds of property deals. The Metropolitan Police is facing calls to hand evidence it collected to the parliamentary commissioner for standards, who can reopen an inquiry into allegations first made a decade ago.
Here's an example:

The Daily Telegraph has seen a police document in which detectives claim to have established that £28,959 in cash was paid into an HSBC account held by Mr Vaz during a single year. The MP and his wife also held a series of other accounts at different banks that were also examined by police.
Still, I'm sure there is an innocent explanation for paying nearly £29,000 in cash into a bank account inside a year.

News would be of an MP who hasn't had/got his snout in the trough or sitting in first class on the gravy train.

Was he not implicated back in 2000 - 2001 in the cash for passport scandal involving Indian businessmen wanting British passports? Seems like he can't help himself.

A piss poor attempt to smear a Labour MP by bringing up transactions between 1998 and 2001 which have already been fully investigated.

Now let's see what else is happening?

1. The Met are again at war with Parliament.
2. He is the chair of the Home Affairs Committee.
3. Day two of the Labour Party Conference.

Some of the allegations in there are purile e.g.

The MP also added that he “had never banked with HSBC”.

However, in his parliamentary expenses files, copies of which have also been seen by The Daily Telegraph, Mr Vaz refunded money to parliament using a cheque from an account held at First Direct, which is part of HSBC.

Is that faecal matter found in an arboreal location possibly ursine in origin?

Can it be true that the Pontiff is a member of the Church of Rome.

At the end of the last Labour government, UK work visas were available on demand to the employees of certain "preferred" companies. Employees of those companies were also granted tax free status in the UK. They paid no income tax or national insurance while British workers sitting in the same office were soaked.

I very much hope that Mr Vaz has an appointment with a large gentleman called Bubba.

Did you by any chance come to a similar conclusion about the recent problem with the governments chief whip?

On the contrary, like too many other politicians he can help himself.

Hope he's going to be nailed. Need something to celebrate St Schadenfreude's Day now that the Chief Whip seems to me to have got away with calling the No.10 plod liars.

Keith Vaz (and his sister) have had their snouts in deep in the trough for at least 10 years.
Ask the people of Leicester about the Keith Vaz personal fiefdom ... Allegedly. Does anyone remember
his convenient heart 'trouble' when last investigated under the Blair Government ...

Ah,yes.

Those upright old Indian Cappies, the Hinduja Brothers,he and that other Socialist paragon of virtue, young Peter Mandelson, were both involved.

It seems shit didn't stick to either of them! ;-)
