Prince Harry is to join the army

Prince Harry passed physically demanding assessments
Prince Harry will join the Army in early 2005 after passing his Sandhurst entrance exams, Clarence House has said.
Obstacle courses, medicals and planning exercise were included in the Regular Commissions Board four-day test.

The 20 year-old, who is third in line to the throne, will begin training to be an officer after taking up his place.

Sandhurst is the army's most prestigious college.

The prince said he was delighted to have passed his exams.

"The last four days have been very challenging, both mentally and physically, but it's also been an enjoyable experience.

"I have set my sights on joining the Army and I am really looking forward to going to Sandhurst next year."

No details as to which regiment Harry might join have been announced.

The academy in Camberley, Surrey, has three intakes a year in January, April and September but January is thought to be the most likely for Harry.

Well it'd be a very brave bunch of officers on the RCB who'd have failed him on anything but medical grounds eh?

fair point, but hey at least he's joining up!

no DS (less the Comd maybe) at Sandhurst is going to give sh*tes who he is, especially if he does join the Gds.

good on 'em

my wife's uncle served/fly with him there. Whilst he admits he certainly isn't the sharpest tool in the shed he did his job as well as could be expected.

At least he went through the motions of RCB. I don't suppose he can win on that score: people will always say he got in by virtue of his position, whether he genuinely made the grade or not.

There's no tradition of royals being given an easy ride during military training, whether at BRNC, CTCRM or RMAS.

This particular career path will shelter him from the public gaze, though, it is to be hoped that wasn't his prime motivation for choosing it. He seems a decent kid and far less f**ked-up than some of his clan.

Greenjackets and Para Reg haven't had a decent royal as far as I can remember, also PWRR may be a prime candidate for political reasons.

Duty rumour is that he was very enthusiastic at Eton CCF and a capable and level headed young man.

It can only help us all if Betty has a grandson serving.

Apparently his old man was highly regarded by the old salts at Dartmouth.

Wonder if RCB asked the drugs question...

However, should minor youthful indiscretions be an issue, in the absence of a conviction or caution, especially if (in this case) they may well be tabloid-generated?

His uncle was known as "Prince Bullshi*" in the Falklands. He was kept well out of harm's way. Exocet decoy my arrse. And yes, I was there.

MiB, there hasn t been a decent Royal since Henry viii. :D So we have to make do. I was under the impression both Charles wing nut and Fatty Andy had served with The Para Regt.

I Beleive the next generation of Royals will be step in the right direction. William especially, provided the paparazzi can leave his mother to rest in peace.

Apart from their role in ensuring that Bliar can't become President-for-Life a la Idi Amin, let's not get all misty-eyed about the royals. Harry's mother died on a dirty weekend in Paris with the Phoney Pharo's indolent son. She was an unfortunate girl used as breeding stock by the inbred Germans who occupy Buck House and was then marginalised and abandoned by Big Ears. Who cares if any of them join the forces? Phil the Greek forced Edward into the Booty course when the lad didn't want to be there and couldn't hack it. His presence deprived someone else of the chance, though it wasn't the boy's fault. There's far too much tugging of the forelock to this kind of crap.

You noticed......can't seem to overcome that subtlety and diplomacy course I took, no matter how much I try. Just brought up to defend the oppressed majority against the PC brigade. :D
