Happy Liberation Day

To all Channel Island ARRSEr's. The parade's just marched off, the cadets were almost in step, and the Old Boys covered most deployments from Suez to the latest Herrick.

I'll be raising a glass to those who arrived on HMS Bulldog, those who escaped, those who died, and those, like my grandparents, who spend their childhood under Occupation.

I'm sat in my office not a hundred yards from where the first bombs fell on 28th June, 1940 killing tomato growers and hauliers waiting to load their cargo. In fact, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the egg banjo my great-grandpa was eating under the table in the White Rock Caf....

Mefite, and a la perchoine!

In anticipation of tomorrow's events in the CI (and Wednesday's on Sark), a happy Liberation Day to any readers of this site there. The weather looks promising, the sea calm, and 72 years on from being freed from under the jackboot the political far right have been voted down in the islands' larger neighbour.
