HAC recruiting beano- tonight

Anyone going to this? If not, I thought I'd plug it for them. Pints can be contributed to the tall OCdt in a badly-shaped beret.

Apache helicopters to descend on the City

The Honourable Artillery Company opens its doors to London, offering the public a behind the scenes look at the oldest regiment of the British Army based in the heart of London’s financial district

Tuesday 20th May 5.30pm – 8.30pm ADMISSION FREE!

To celebrate the Territorial Army’s (TA) centenary year the oldest regiment in the British Army, the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), is opening its magnificent Grade II* listed Headquarters in the City to the public.

The one-off open evening will give Londoners the opportunity to go behind the scenes of a fascinating regiment, based in 6 acres of green land and hidden away in the heart of London’s financial district. Highlights of the event include a visit from Apache and Chinook helicopters, historic treasures, musical performances, a field kitchen, BBQ and cash bar facilities.

Dating back to 1537, the HAC is a TA regiment made up of around 400 civilians who regularly train in their spare time. The HAC’s role encompasses surveillance and target acquisition patrols, as well as ceremonial duties in London.

A great deal of effort has gone into organising next Tuesday’s event and this will be reflected in a wide range of interesting displays. Visitors will be provided with a unique insight into the workings of this historic Army regiment, including:

· An unusual appearance of Apache and Chinook helicopters

· Exhibition of military equipment, guns and scimitars

· Performances from the HAC Band and the Corps of Drums

· A display by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery

· The HAC’s Company of Pikemen & Musketeers (the Lord Mayor’s personal body guard) will be on parade

· Displays depicting the HAC’s historical and current role in the Army

· Field kitchen & a summer BBQ – rolls & BBQ items for approx £2.50 - £4.00

· Cash bar facility available throughout the evening.

Over 400 HAC soldiers from a range of backgrounds – from nurses to stockbrokers – will be on hand to talk about their experiences, including active service in Iraq and Afghanistan, at the forefront of a premier TA regiment.
