The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
Rest In Peace
good luck to the other injured
Can't find anything on the BBC about it or MOD oracle.
Are you talking about the poor chap killed at the weekend but named by the MOD today? If not and its something new, then heart goes out to them.
It was reported on SKY News as breaking news - but the report was identical to the weekend's incident. May be a mix up?
lets hope so
This is the chap who was killed on Saturday. I think this demonstrates that there needs to be a site convention for starting these threads as in this instance it adds to the confusion that the thread is 'guardsman down' and the casualty was Guardsman Downes.
The 60th British soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2001 was killed in a Taliban ambush in the Sangin Valley at the weekend, the Ministry of Defence confirmed yesterday.
Guardsman Neil "Tony" Downes from the 1st Battalion the Grenadier Guards was on his way to rescue a patrol from the Afghan army pinned down by hostile fire when his own unit was attacked.
