Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Getting a A - grading in you SJAR - is this a hard thing to do? Will this almost garentee promotion to the next rank? How many people within a Regt get a A- ? Could people shed some light on the matter
  2. Guarantee even.........
  3. It depends on the number of slots available at Glasgow/MCM. You could get an 'A-' top on your Regt'l board, but be graded bottom of the top third at Corps level (only promoting the first 28 out of 30; as an example). You could still be above the quality line but unsuccessful.

To get an A- you should be well, well above the usual and your write ups from 1, 2 and even 3 RO should support this. If the write up is average but the grade outstanding there is obviously an issue which will need investigation. Many a 1RO has had their wings clipped, grade wise.

In theory, anyone being given an A- should have been flagged up well before reporting time for your 2 or 3 RO so that they can a) Give them a bit more attention through the year and b) give the 1RO a steer as to whether the A- is a realistic hope in wider Regtl terms.

Will it guarantee promotion? No but it should put you above the quality line as blobmeister says.

  5. Not really, all depends if you are truelly worthy of an A- or whether the person grading you has over graded you. Gradings along with your RO's comments will help you get promoted but as said above your grade may be below that of the rest of the people in your Corps so although you meet the quality line there may be other people that are promoted whilst you become bitter and disillusioned with the way promotions are ran.

That being said good luck :)
