Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I read something in one of the papers about Google earth today, having not heard of it I had to have a look.

The quality of some of the satellite images are out standing but at the same time I have some real concerns or an I over reacting.

Take a look at Iraq, at Basrah airport & Shaibar, if you didn’t know the camp lay out you do now!
  2. its not up to date, some of the images are over a year old
  3. But camp layouts don’t change that much, I was easily able to identify my office in Shaibar, although have problems even finding Al Amarha let alone my bunk there.
  4. Well, when I was 'in' we were encouraged to vary your route to work, not be predictable etc.
    Why not change the layouts!!!???

However, I suspect that those who which to do harm will know more information than any satellite image will give them.
Not so much overreacting as not really being aware of the risks even if the photos weren't there.
