Good Show Denzel-UK stars take note?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. The media missed this one!

Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center , in San Antonio , Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his cheque book out and wrote a cheque for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it The question is - why do:
    Britney Spears
    Tom Cruise and
    other Hollywood fluff
make front page news with their ridiculous antics and Denzel Washington's charity doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the local newspaper in San Antonio.

OK a bit of SPAM hype but sounds like a good guy. I wonder if any of our stars deserve a pat on the back/good show?
  2. Want this posted on here ages ago?? Still nice to hear it again though.
  3. You're right M_t_g. Was on here some time ago, as was the snopes article suggesting that the story had been somewhat embellished in the telling, even though Denzel Washington's support for the hospital is quite genuine.

Some of our 'stars' have been doing good things - Ros Kemp, Clarkson/May/Hammond etc. Its not of interest to chavscum so its never going to be high profile in the red tops but....
  5. I missed the original post so am uber glad to have read this. Very impressed with Mr. Washington; shows not all celebs are complete tw@ts.

Edit - I have done a tad more research and it seems he "agreed to serve on the Fisher House board of trustees" after a large donation.
  6. Thats a class act, top guy!
  7. I seem to remember that Denzel W did a good/gritty film years ago where he played the part of a returning Falklands Para in Birmingham (I think). Can't remember the title of it though.

  8. That would be interesting to see. He's always done a good mentalist.

  9. for queen and country
  10. Nice one.
  11. anyone find a torrent of it, i looked, i cant.
  12. not a scooby; torrents or usenet

not alot on the net about it actually, IDMB has hardly anything on it
  13. I've been looking too and found next to nothing.
  14. My bold. This is a fantastic story.
  15. To be fair, a lot of celebs have been publicly backing H4H so it's not as if there is a total disinterest amongst the "Heat" set.
