Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Witness to War: Diaries of the Second World War in Europe ~Richard Aldrich

Currently reading this doorstep of a book, collection of wartime diary extracts of civvies, resistance fighters, statesmen, officers, fighting and captured soldiers, from every side of the European conflict (including neutrals) month by month from 1939-1945, with a brief overview of the progress of the war. Author currently working on a "...War in the Pacific" edition.

Into the Dark;30 years in the RUC by Johnston Brown.

Very good book by the man who put away Jonny Adair & other notable terrorists. and it delves into the length's that RUC Special Branch would go to to discredit & even arrange murder attempts on Browns life.
  3. 'On killing' by Lt.Col. David Grossman.
This is a real eye opener. How and why soldiers are conditioned in basic training, psychology in and after combat. A rational explanation of PTSD. Theres a chapter on why so many Yanks came back traumatised after tours in Vietnam, the stories of vets being spat at in train stations is just sad. Well worth a read
