going from a soldier to an officer

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi all,

I'm a soldier with three years and a tour under my belt and have been offered the chance to go to sandhurst.
Is the money going to be worth it? Are the bullshit goggles the army issued me going to replaced with a bigger pair? Will I still have the opportunities to get out there and do things or will I be chained to a desk? Is sandhurst a years full on **** about?

Anybody out there who's done the same? Was it worth it?

  2. With 3 years service and a tour under your belt as you say, surely you are familiar with the roles that officers fill and how often they get out and about? Which Corps, regt in particular?
Have a quick search mate, there's been plenty on this subject before.

  3. Ask your Troop/Pl Commander for his or her recent experience of RMAS and their projected/expected career prospects.

Of course, this will only be relevant to your cap badge or perhaps even specific Regiment within that cap badge, but it will give you an idea. And you don't have to commission into that cap badge.
