Getting rid of the last one.

Mk IV is leaving the nest at last and is joining the RSig's on Sept 1st. Not entirely sure of the trade because names have changed so much. Systems operator or some such I don't know, after all a scaley is still a scaley innit.
That's two of my 3 boys who have joined up, quite proud I am.

His career in the R Signals is just starting. From a fellow Scaley whose career officially ends as at 31 August I wish him all the very best for the future. Certa Cito!

You're right about the trade thing. I bet if I told a newbie Scaley what mine was he'd be scratching his head in bewilderment. "What the hell is a "Telegraphist"?" Plus "What has "Telecommunications" got to do with the Royal Signals"?"

Best of luck to your kid on his new career. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

On CGS direction we reduced the amount of trades we had as it was too confusing for new joiners. As a result, we kept the same amount of trades and stuck "Communications Engineer" in from of each name, which confused the heck out of me, and the majority serving. As long as CGS is happy...

Are you finally going then? Sad to see you go pal, not many of us old hits left.

To be fair I haven't been able to give the boy much advice about the Sigs because the only posting I had with them was 28 (Northag) Sigs at Krefeld as a full screw VM in the1980's. Excellent posting for a VM though, the wagons barely moved so exercises were spent stagging-on and watching porn.
Major panic once a year when the Germans turned up to TUV the fleet but otherwise a lot of sport. I am sure that 28 Sigs was an anomaly though (lots of Belgians infesting the place as well). Once a year an American Signals unit would be in attendance and drink the NAAFI out of diet coke.

Yes, 1 out of 3 isn't bad.

Will you be getting your Scaley son a Morse box set or just some E45?
