Gerry Adams WAS an informer

Not my work but that of Dr. Bill Matchett, himself a former SB RUC / PSNI 30 year graduate and now a senior researcher at Maynooth University in Dublin.
His missus is an absolute darling and prevented me from getting him really social.:)

I hope to review Bill's book - 'Secret Victory. The Intelligence War Against PIRA' when I've read it through.
@Poppy and I ambushed him on one of his talks.
It's a great book. Everyone's experience here was different and no-one is going to agree with everything someone else says about it but I found less I disagreed with in his book than in any other I have read about NI.

Based on your (and @Alec_Lomas) comments I have downloaded the eBook from Amazon. Some of the comments in the review section are amusing . . .

Bill remarked in his presentation that he was advised to open with the Loughgall incident otherwise no one would be interested in reading it. A lot of the content appeared in his PhD work and therefore somewhat too academic in It's narrative.
Pen & Sword the usual publishing route for such NI topics refused to handle it, describing it as being too politically sensitive.

Maybe, just maybe MI5 danced to his tune - who'se running who when outcomes converge?
er.......no, can you think of another terrorist organisation that failed so miserably to achieve any of its stated aims and why do you think its 'spectaculars' kept backfiring? Whatever we were paying those two it was money well spent

There has been, and probably still is, a well documented "back channel" between the Republicans and the British government.
They have had various get togethers going back to the mid 70's.
Some of them were even made public at the time. I'm sure Gerry has been able to talk to the right people for many years and visa versa. Sadly that does not make him a paid informer, just one of the many movers and shakers that were responsible for what happened to whom and when. The newspapers have got hold of some fairly unimportant documents that have been released and made up a headline (surprise, surprise!).
By the way, Corbyn and McDonnell were not part of that back channel. They are just republican sympathisers that Gerry used as useful idiots.
According to the Grauniad today, "It woz Labour wot won da piece". Odds on, your last lines disappear/fade into memory, as Saint Jezza gets credited with all general world peaciness.

How Labour contacts in 1987 may have nudged Gerry Adams towards peace

By 1987 morale within PIRA was particularly low. The Intelligence War had penetrated the major arms dumps in the South thanks to Frank Hegarty the FRU agent and McGuinness's QM in Derry.
Whereas Frank RIP murdered two years earlier in May 1985 was figured to be the principal 'tout' others within PIRA factored that Macker was less than clean. Consequently lots of volunteers left the movement believing their names were already in RUC hands.
That two year phase (85 >87) was particu lately influential on Sinn Fein / PIRA policy.

The best Corbyn could have offered at the time would have been experiences of the KGB political fronts as the guns and semtex routes were drying up. As it was, Adams had a disregard for what PIRA termed 'Guinness Socialists' with Livingstone and Gorgeous George completing their Musketeers line up.

I’m pretty sure Adams’ tactical touting was discussed in Maloney’s Secret History of the IRA.

Instead of bumping off the opposition he got them locked up. In jail they continued to be martyrs to the cause.

It’s the breathtaking hypocrisy of these people that gets me. They demand that their enemies are persued by the law but wriggle and turn to deny any justice to their victims. They claim to be heroes of !
‘military’ action but claim they’re not guilty of the thing’s they have done.

Well, one of the outcomes of any sentence is supposed to be some form of contrition and reform. He and his ilk demonstrate neither. Ergo...

There’s little point in asking Adams and his ilk to show contrition or compassion. They don’t give a rat’s arse about their victims. Whether those victims are their enemies, collateral damage, their own people they betrayed or rape and sexual abuse victims whose abuse they facilitated and covered up. They don’t care about the victims of their funacial crimes either b

Adams and the rest of his murdering scum brethren believe they have done nothing wrong and by not pursuing and punishing every last one of them, it just emboldens them to carry on as they were justified in their actions as terrorists. Like all of them, he is just weak pathetic basturd whose demise will never come quick enough.

I wouldn’t not wish him a quick (or painless) death. I’d like to see his reputation ruined among his supporters.

I'm sure that there's a few people out there with the ability, inclination and equipment, who would be more than willing to reach out and touch Adam's and his cronies.

His death can be as long and painful as you desire, I just want it to happen. And the sickest thing is no matter what truth comes out about Adams, his cult of jerry will not turn on him because they are all equally culpable with enabling the IRA/PIRA/Sinn Fein to carry out crimes against their own countrymen.

Well the sooner he pops his clogs the sooner he will stop picking up his government pension from his time as a paid tout! I wonder if his spouse will get 50% once he is off?
