Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am due to be posted to Germany in 2 1/2 months straight from Iraq, has anyone got any advice/info ref getting there, BFG registering cars, living there, ... er, ANYTHING!?!?!

    Anything is appreciated!
  2. Hi,
Where are you posted to in germany? I've been in Paderborn Garrison for 8 years (Husband is in the REME), the monies good and we get the tax off most things, most importantly of course tax free cars!
I work for a company called O.Girke and we do travel and insurance so will be able to sort you out wherever you get posted to for your Car etc as we have 22 offices in BFG.
Paperwork to register your car can be a bit of a pain but worth it in the end to get tax free fuel (about 3 quid for 10 litres!).
The lifestyle is what you make of it, Germany is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it!
    Good luck with the move!
  3. You will get all the info you need when you get there, off the lads who have been out there a while, most importantly ask for the nearest EROS centre :thumright:

But don't FFS rush off and buy a 'tax free' car as soon as you get there. Have a look round and get a decent second hand one. Some very smart secondhand BMWs knocking about, left hookers obviously but some bargains to be had...well there was back in 92-94 when I was out there. Mind you probably changed alot since I was in Osnatraz...
