Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Some of you must have seen these things before, but I hadn't. I was browsing through eBAy (German) and there are literally hundreds of these things. A tad morbid, but very interesting. There's one where 4 brothers were all killed over a period of two years on the Eastern front. I've seen some on the Brit eBay, but there's an abundance of them on the German site.

Did we ever do anything like that? It seems to be just German thing.
  2. I take it these are memorial cards, not the vietnam kind of death cards?
  3. Yes they are. Apparantly it was a Catholic thing. Little photo of the deceased and a little prayer with a brief history about how he died.
  4. Japanese did the same thing.
  5. .....only smaller!
  6. Thanks fatso.
  7. not my bag really. I find them morbid.

i know some people collect them and i believe there's even a reference book being written about them at the moment.
