Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Today I went to the funeral of a 91 year old veteran. A beautiful ceremony - well performed. I went in Service Dress, and hailed a taxi to take me to the church. The cabbie wouldn’t accept his fee from me, saying that he doesn’t charge armed forces and suggesting I donate the money to Help for Heroes.

Perhaps this story isn’t particularly unusual, but it hasn’t happened to me before, and I was really touched.

  2. I had a similiar experience whilst on R&R last year, got the train from Oxford to London after landing at Brize and the train guard told me to go and sit in first class. Then at Paddington the taxi driver who took me to Kingscross wouldn't accept my money and said the fare was on him.
