General J. C. Smuts and the Boer War

I will shortly be giving a presentation on leadership, using Jan Smuts as a case study. I have had particular difficulty finding information about his actions in the Boer War when he was a Commando General. I'd appreciate some guidance as to where I can find reliable information about this.

So far, I know about the broad pattern - the 2 000 mile raid in the Cape tying up around 35 000 British Soldiers being the major military achievement. What I am after is specific actions or acts by Smuts which can be used to illustrate aspects of his leadership.

Many thanks from a grateful Crab for any help offered.
