A psychological game exists where a group has to share out a sum of money and all agree, else, nobody gets any.. Labour freebies might have worked in the 60/70s where people trusted each other a touch more and the mythical 'community' really was homogenous and united.
I suspect every freebie creates less trust between groups and makes it less likely labour can win.
Down here, concerned worthies clubbed together to raise funding for a 'Night Bus' for the dossers.
Local bus firm loaned them a double decker. Bus fitted out with a kitchen and shower, food, wash items, bedding and towels laid on, rest area downstairs, wifi, and upstairs converted to a dorm.
Bus duly parked up on its first night and dossers welcomed to come use it by the excited gooders.
Next day? Gooders come to restock the bus for the next night - The Horror! Someone vandalised the bus! Stole all the fittings! Its must be the locals who had expressed their unhappiness at a DosserBus® parked on their streets.
More money raised, the bus refitted and once more deployed… same again, bus wrecked, all the fixings ripped out… except, this time there were witnesses.
It was the Dossers looting the bus in a scene reminiscent of the scene with the Antonov in Lord of War.
remember kiddies, 99% of dossers are dossers because they are lazy and stupid. And now the Gooders have to find the money to pay back the bus company for the refitting of their vandalised bus.
