Gandhi Must Fall

This one's sure to sow confusion amongst the snowflakes & SJW's:

A court in Malawi has halted work on a statue of Mahatma Gandhi after critics accused him of using racial slurs.

"Being black people ourselves, such remarks have invited a sense of loathing and detestation of Gandhi," the Gandhi Must Fall group said in its court application.

Judge Michael Tembo granted an injunction temporarily suspending work on the statue.

The effigy's construction was part of a $10m (£7.8m) building deal with India.

Under the agreement a convention centre named after Gandhi is being built in Blantyre, Malawi's commercial capital.

India's Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu had been scheduled to visit the country to inaugurate the centre and the statue, local outlet The Nation reports.

I remember that time he called a guy a slime ball, don't remember anything racist though.

“Ours is one continual struggle against a degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the Europeans, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir whose occupation is hunting, and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with…,” Gandhi said during a speech at a public meeting in 1896, which was later published in the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi.

However, this is not the first incident - look to the west of Africa...

Ghana: Call to remove Gandhi statue over 'racist views'

Reverse racism from the all-blacks-are-good camp.

There has been increased animosity between blacks and Indians in South Africa of late, with a few radicals blaming the 'coolies' for being cheats and dishonest in business (not so far from the mark in many instances) and stiring up racial hatred.
And many will remember Idi Amin throwing all the asians out of Uganda.

Kenyan riots against Mohindi traders a few years ago, not to mention anti Mohindi songs in SA and attacks on shopkeepers.

Gets brushed under the carpet pretty quickly though, so as not to upset the narrative.

First they came for Bill Cosby...

Okay, he deserved it. But my point is that no-one is beyond reproach - in the sense that no-one is perfect.

What does worry me is the constant narrowing of history to suit a contemporary - and often very fleeting - orthodoxy. However, it is amusing on some level to see one of those who is regarded as one of the principal de-constructors of 'imperialism' now being turned upon. 'Amusing' in a not very funny sense.

Well this one should tie the SJW liberal lefty mob in knots for a bit. They forgot to mention he was a bit of a nonce.

Yes.
Gandhi used the k-word.
Naughty, naughty. (in the modern context)
However, at the time EVERYONE used it.
And for a long time afterwards.
In Great Escape (1950), Brickhill writes that Bushell spoke 'English, Afrikaans and Kaffir'.
Read few WW2 memoirs, and the phrase 'working like niggers' often appears.
One part of South Africa was, until relatively recently, called Kaffraria.

We are approaching an Orwellian situation of continual rewrites of history. Everyone will look at the past with their own tinted glasses on, it is just the way we do things. Things get really distorted when people forget that things were very, very different years ago ( sometimes not that long ago either).
Attitudes and perceptions change, often for good reason but people need to remember the context in which events happened.
Rant over.

To misquote Vetinari, 'of course history can be rewritten, it is what historians are for'.

Which bit? The bit where we thrashed the Vikings or the bit where we got thrashed by the *shudder* French?
Except the Normans weren't really French, they were relocated Vikings....

By 1066 the Normans were 95% French by vigorous intermarrying with the French nobility.
Hence in 1420 the western half of France was part of the Kingdom of England.
Unfortunately not for much longer.
How the French must regret this.
