Whistleblower sacked after speaking out about G4S cutting corners when vetting security staff for the Olympics

Sarah Hubble was told not return after contacting the media about her experiences working for G4S

She says she had access to passport information, bank account details and national insurance cards but had not been vetted herself


A whistleblower who claims staff cut corners while vetting security staff for the London Olympics was escorted from her place of work.
Data input clerk Sarah Hubble was interviewed by bosses, then told not to return after contacting the media about her experiences working for G4S.
Miss Hubble, 27, from Darlington, County Durham, claimed the system was creaking under the pressure of processing thousands of applications ahead of this summer’s games.
She said staff had to process a minimum of ten applications an hour and that the documents ended up piled in corners at the office in Stockton-on-Tees.

Nothing surprising there, G4S overcommitted themselves on this, nowhere near enough manpower to start with, then they decide to default on the T&Cs of the guys working for them which were nothing like they'd been promised on interview, hence leaving in droves causing the problems they have now.

Sadly the Public Interest Disclosure Act provides very little protection for people who make disclosures to the public.

As above, nothing surprises me from G4S.

Remember this, and USB sticks being left on trains, the next time the government tries to sell an idea to the public that contains your personal information but will be protected by gee whiz uber encryption protocols so it is "totally secure".

Databases are only as secure as the incompetent, ignorant and dumb institutions/droids that use them.

Yes I know Daily Wail stories tend to be rather grim.

But do you have any evidence of untruth in the story?

Maybe we need to take a look in the mirror and realise that indeed, our people, society, institutions and government are broken.

G4S (although spectacularly **** anyway) have done what 99.9% of large scale security companies would have done. Bid for the work, win the **** and then worry about the finer points later! Sorry if that upsets/enrages but YOU try and get 'x' amount of bodies cleared, trained (if needed) and in place in the time frames they had, should they have spent all their time and resource and started the clearance process last Summer? Only to find that most of the guys they sourced had gone to work elsewhere by the time day one week one came round?

She was rightly binned, I would have politely shown her the door then ensured that via a 3rd party her new potential employer would know she was a snide and underhand individual as soon as a request for reference rattled our letterbox.

Under both systems: the former, crude and barbaric. The latter, sophisticated and civilised, the outcome is the same. The individual is taken out of circulation and rendered invisible by the corrupt and incompetent who are invariably rewarded with government contracts and public money for 'weeding out' the able and the diligent.

The statutory protection for 'whistleblowers' looks good on paper, but as with much legislation designed to affect social protection at the expense of commercial interests, it has been rendered virtually useless by the interpretation of what will or will not constitute a 'protected disclosure' and the necessity to prove the presence or absence of 'malice' or 'ulterior motive' on the part of the whistleblower.

But but but but but according the All Great and Holy Mail, it's only the public sector that is the utmost in grotesteque shlipshod incompetence, never the great and good of our profit maintaining private sector. Say it ain't so!!! Say it ain't soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Which is par for the course with most - if not all - security companies. How do you CRB check 5,000 Nigerians at £250 a pop? And who's paying for their SIA cards?
