Future of the RA

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Thoughts on the long term future of the RA (past 2020 and the current scramble around Op HERRICK).

Kinetic surface to surface effects. Will it be whoosh or bang or a 9 Liner to air/ avn platform? Will the individual supported arm commander control fires? Will it be all precision or do we still need suppression?

Kinetic Surface to air effects. Short range against avn only? Will we give air defence to the RAF to give them something to do?

ISTAR. Will we lose this to the RAC?

Ceremonial. Should we retain the King's Troop?

  2. ISTAR - probably not all of it (though they are making a pretty good stab at a case for ownership), but almost probably will lose (have almost already) the grittier bits of it.

As for King's Troop...how the Army can justify its existence with a straight face is beyond me.
  3. Seeing as I'm being posted to 47 Regt in July, I'd be interested in hearing the views of UAS and it's part in ISTAR, and how it fits in with the RA's future, from members with longer in the service than I have.
