future in USA?

Ok, I'm a brand new member so if I've posted this in the wrong section don't flip out on me! I'm in the process of joining the British army (just done my second interview got the third coming up). I am quite optimistic that I will get in. If I do and I somehow manage to pass basic training then I will hopefully have a long term career in the army. However I'm considering moving to America when I'm older so I might decide to do 4 years and leave. If I do go to America years from now I would probably join the US Army. The problem with that is I've heard they don't like women in the armed forces there. I don't know if this is true or not I've heard women are either bitches, sluts or dykes there. On the other hand they allow women into the marines which is pretty cool and some people say that the bad stuff you hear about how they treat women is anti military propaganda. Has anyone served with the US forces? If so do you think it would be a wise choice joining them in say 6 years?

ps. Did I post this in the right section... don't think I did...

eh? Can you help me or not?

Welcome to the madhouse!

Couple of points you will no doubt receive some sage advice and help you will also receive abuse its part of the deal that comes with the uniform your about to put on. Secondly yep you put it in the wrong place, there is a US forum on here and some very distinguished members eg JJH (Jumping Jar Head ) and some not so distinguished members, no names no pack drill. They'll find you anyway ;-) so re post in the US forum you might get more sensible answers.

Now back to matters in hand, the rules quite clearly state all new members female members of ARRSE have to post topless photos, its in the rules, honest read them.

I know it's difficult but not impossible. I haven't looked into VISAS yet cause I don't know if I'm actually going or not. And to the other guy I look like a 17 year old girl

Well, bear this in mind. One in three wench soldiers in the US military get raped by their male colleagues. That should tell you something. They have to take a "battle buddy" when they go for a piss.

Why do you want to go to the US?

I know someone who looked into this. Turns out it's bloody difficult and just getting a green card is not enough And also why the **** would you want to?

Oh and good luck moving to America....getting citizenship there is a complete nightmare. Even get a temporary work visa is a monster of a task.

Best of luck all the same.

'This is the website you need. Camp America | Summer Jobs in America Since 1969

Run along now'

Whats your problem I just want some advice
click on the link in my post above yours, you'll be able to post it in the right place. And don't mind joey he's probably run out of meths oh and he's an utter bastard like the rest of us.

And if you take some time to read some other threads you'll find that the banter your currently on the receiving end of is normal not just for here but also for real in the Army. They don't tell you about it at the recruiting stage, they like to just leave it as a surprise for when your in training. Don't worry you'll get used to it, and learn to dish it out as well. Either that or you'll decide the Armys not for you.

As I said welcome to the madhouse.

Thats what your problem is it? I said I would like a long career but I might not. Lots of people don'r stay long enough to qualify for the pension. I'm not even in basic training yet for gods sake! I could drop out out after 1 month in basic or I could stay 22 years - I don't know i'm speaking hypothetically

Your in a hole so stop digging.

I am not sure if this is an obvious troll post or not but your fastest way of joining up might be:

Marry U.S. citizen -> get green card -> File for naturalisation -> Become citizen (total of 6-8yrs from start of process) -> Then Enlist

And this is the best case scenario.

On average it can take anywhere from 12yrs + for most people via the non-marriage route to become a citizen. The reason I even know a little about the process is that my brother in law married an Aussie chick, I gleaned a bit of info from him while he was doing the paperwork etc. for her to become a citizen.

This handy PDF pictorial guide should help you out (click to download):
