When I joined-up (shortly after amalgamation - RRF), officers didn't wear the Hackle. In working-dress, when wearing a beret, they had a small badge (a bit like RE officers wear in size) and in other cases either a khaki cap or a posh cap in Blues/Mess Dress. This photo is the Northumberlands. The officer in the Ferret isn't wearing a Hackle. I seem to recall the adoption of the full-size badge and Hackle being around 1971 and the alternate headgear disappearing altogether. Questions: Does anyone know the provenance of this change? Did RWF have a similar change (I can't remember ever seeing an RWF officer)?
